Soccer Teams Win State!

The Mustang boys' and girls' soccer teams both won state championships as the boys took the school's first-ever AAA state title with a 4-1 victory over Lutheran and the girls beat Episcopal 5-0.

Senior Matt Lambert broke the state record with his 37th goal of the season, Ryan Lamberson scored twice and Luke Sandlin provided some insurance with the final goal after Lutheran led 1-0 early in the first half. Lambert finishes his high school career with a school-record 101 career goals in four seasons at CAC and will play collegiately at Oklahoma Christian University. Zach Williamson earned MVP honors for his stellar play on defense.

The girls won state for the third year in a row behind Kelsey Hatcher's MVP-performance as the senior finished her soccer career with a hat trick. The Lady Mustangs never gave up a goal in the state tournament as they outscored four opponents 27-0. Kara Kellerman and Anna Grace Chandler also scored for CAC as Episcopal did not get a shot on goal until the game's final minutes.

Williamson Signs with Harding

After helping the Mustangs to their first-ever AAA state title, senior Zach Williamson signed to continue his academic and soccer careers at Harding University in Searcy. Williamson, who earned State Tournament MVP honors, is the second Mustang soccer player to sign collegiately after Matt Lambert committed to Oklahoma Christian University in Olahoma City earlier this semester.

Girls' Track Takes Fourth at District

Callie McAlister led the charge to a fourth-place overall finish at the district track meet in Nashville by winning the long jump, 200 meters, and 400 meters.  P.D. Elliott, who holds the state's best high jump this season, had a disappointing outing in the high jump but qualified for state with a second place finish.  Elliott rebounded by setting a new school record in the shot put of 34’ 5”.

Jessica Lieblich placed second in the 800 meters to qualify for state, and freshmen LaVerta Straham and Gracie Frizzell finished third in the 100 and 300 hurdles, respectively.
