Led by a stellar junior class, the 2008 Mustangs look to continue their success under second-year coach Doug Gunselman.
Junior pitcher Bryce Biggerstaff leads the pitching staff as junior Geno Jameson returns to lead the offense. Last season, Biggerstaff led the Mustangs on the mound in wins, strikeouts and ERA while Jameson led the team in hits, walks, homeruns and runs batted in.

Behind Cody Reese's five RBI, CAC defeated Abundant Life 16-0 Monday in their 2008 season-opener. Ian Bryan (1-0) picked up the win on the mound for the Mustangs.
Reese finished 2-for-2 with a double while Chris Cullum and John Edwards were both 2-for-2 as well. CAC’s home opener is Thursday against Lake Hamilton at Burns Park with first pitch scheduled at 4:00 p.m.

Picking up his first career victory on the mound, Tanner Yarberry pitched 2 2/3 innings in relief as CAC defeated the Glen Rose Beavers 12-3 in nonconference play.
Yarberry allowed only one hit and gave up no runs while Bryce Biggerstaff, Cody Reese, and Brock Ashford each had two hits and two runs. Biggerstaff and Fletcher Dowell led the Mustangs with three RBI each.
The Mustangs travel to Catholic Tuesday with first pitch scheduled for 5:00 p.m.

Playing two different teams in back-to-back games, the Mustangs took a 4-3 victory over Little Rock Christian and lost a 7-5 decision to Lake Hamilton Thursday at Burns Park.
CAC defeated Little Rock Christian in a close game with Ian Bryan pitching 5 1/3 innings and picking up the win. Bryce Biggerstaff came in and shut down the Warriors, pitching the final 1 2/3 innings for his first save of the season.
CAC was down 3-0 after the first three innings before their bats came alive. Ian Bryan hit a two-run homerun to cut the Warrior lead to 3-2. A couple of batters later, Blake Leisenring hit his first varsity career homerun, driving in two runs, that proved to be the game-winner.
After leading most of the game thanks to timely hitting and four errors by the Wolves, CAC returned the favor by committing four errors late in the game that proved to be costly as they dropped the nightcap to Lake Hamilton.

CAC got redemption from an earlier error-filled loss against
CAC’s offense was held in check most of the game, scoring only one run in the first five innings. Down 2-1 in the sixth inning, the Mustangs' Chris Cullum and Blake Leisenring got on base on Bruin errors. They advanced to second and third, respectively, on a wild pitch before freshman John Edwards hit into a fielder’s choice that scored Cullum and tied the score 2-2.
Mitchell Powers was able to get on base with another Bruin error, putting two runners on base with one out. Then another wild pitch moved the runners to second and third and Ian Bryan made them pay with a two-run double to right center field which scored both Powers and Leisenring and put the Mustangs ahead 4-2.

The Mustangs played Rogers Friday in Harrison before the rest of the tournament was rained out Saturday, dropping an 8-4 decision.
John Edwards went 3-for-3 at the plate for the Mustangs but could not overcome two Rogers' homeruns.
The Mustangs are scheduled to play Oak Grove in a 7-4A conference game today at Burns Park.

CAC used two homeruns from Bryce Biggerstaff and another from Brock Ashford to take a 21-3 7-4A conference victory Friday at Mena.
Ian Bryan picked up the win on the mound for the Mustangs three different pitchers saw action. CAC continues conference play Monday as they host the Fountain Lake Cobras.

CAC defeated the Fountain Lake Cobras Monday afternoon 21-1 on a five inning run rule. Bryce Biggerstaff went the distance striking out 14 out of 16 batters faced in just five innings of work. Mitchell Powers and Cody Reese each hit their first homeruns of the season, as CAC was able to pound out 13 hits in just five innings.

CAC defeated Oak Grove Tuesday afternoon 11-2 to remain undefeated in 7-4A conference play. Ian Bryan pitched a complete game giving up two unearned runs. For the second consecutive day, Mitchell Powers hit a homerun to help maintain the Mustangs’ position in first place. CAC had 14 hits in seven innings. CAC takes on Little Rock Christian before Friday's conference clash against the second-seeded Ashdown Panthers.

In the nightcap of a doubleheader, CAC lost to Little Rock Christian Academy 7-4 in a nonconference game at Burns Park.
Mitchell Powers pitched 5 2/3 innings, giving up only two earned runs, while Brock Ashford made his season debut on the mound striking out three in 1 1/3 innings of work. The Mustangs hit the ball well once again, but some costly defensive miscues proved to be too much to overcome.

Down by two runs entering the seventh inning, CAC got key hits from Mitchell Powers and Bryce Biggerstaff to score three runs and take a 6-5 victory Monday at De Queen.
The Mustangs are now 6-0 in 7-4A conference play and can clinch the conference championship with a victory over Ashdown Tuesday at Burns Park with first pitch scheduled at 4:00 p.m.

After securing a trip to the state tournament with a victory over Hamburg, the Mustangs fell to the Ashdown Panthers 3-1 in the 4A South Region Tournament semifinals Monday in Ashdown. Ian Bryan and Bryce Biggerstaff held Ashdown to three runs, but CAC’s offense could not get going against a stellar pitching performance from the Ashdown starter.
CAC now plays Nashville today at 4:00 p.m. in Ashdown with the winner taking the South Region's third seed into State Tournament play at Valley View High School in Jonesboro.

CAC now takes the fourth seed from the South Region and plays Gravette Friday at 4:00 p.m. in the first round of the State Tournament at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro.

Scoring four runs in the first inning, the Mustangs defeated #1-seeded Gravette 5-1 in the first round of the 4A State Tournament Friday at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro.
Leadoff batter John Edwards got on with an error and scored on Mitchell Powers' double, and Powers' came home on a single by Geno Jameson. Brock Ashford then hit a two-run homer over the left field fence and CAC led 4-0.
Ian Bryan got the win on the mound for the Mustangs as the defense got out of bases-loaded situations in the third and sixth innings.
CAC now takes on tournament host Valley View Saturday at 12:00 p.m. in the quarterfinals at Valley View High School in Jonesboro.

Playing the host team on their own field in the state quarterfinals, the Mustangs could not keep up with the Valley View bats, dropping a 9-1 decision in the quarterfinals at Valley View High School in Jonesboro.
The Mustangs end their season with a 15-13 overall record after taking second place in their final season in the 7-4A conference. CAC moves to the 5A-West in all sports in 2008-09.
