Hatcher Commits to OK State

Wednesday, August 15, 2007

Wanting to make a commitment by the end of the summer, senior guard Kelsey Hatcher has chosen to attend Oklahoma State University to continue her academic and basketball careers.

"I feel like they're the best fit for me," said Hatcher, a starter for the Lady Mustangs' last two state championships. She chose OSU from among over 60 schools actively recruiting the 5'10" guard.

Collegiate Girls Basketball Report ranks Hatcher at #24 in the nation among seniors and second in the nation among point guards.

The Lady Mustangs are coming off their third consecutive state championship and will look to continue that streak after losing Arkansas-signee Whitney Zachariason and Karli Kenley, who signed with Bethany College in Tennessee.

Lady Mustangs Look For Four

October 15, 2007

After capturing the state title three consecutive years, the Lady Mustangs look to challenge for a fourth championship this season.

That prospect certainly looks possible with the return of All-State senior guard Kelsey Hatcher, who has committed to play college basketball at Oklahoma State University. Joining Hatcher are returning guards Jordan Henderson and Jordan Fisher along with junior post Mary Ann Vincent and a talented sophomore class.

The Lady Mustangs sport a 96-12 record over the last three seasons. Head coach Steve Quattlebaum will be looking for win number 300 this year as he takes a 275-103 record over the last 12 years into this season.

Hatcher's 41 Points "Benefits" CAC in Win Over Sheridan

Tuesday, November 13, 2007

Led by Kelsey Hatcher's 41 points, the Lady Mustang basketball squad took a 72-52 win over Sheridan in a benefit game that supports the Arkansas Activities Association's catastrophic insurance program.

The Lady Mustangs led 20-16 at the end of the first quarter and 38-33 at the half behind Hatcher's 23 first-half points. But in the third quarter the CAC defense took over holding Sheridan to only five points, and Mary Ann Vincent scored seven points to go with Hatcher's 12 points as the Lady Mustangs broke the game open with a 62-38 lead heading into the final period.

Hatcher, who has committed to Oklahoma State University, hit six three-pointers and went 5-for-6 from the free throw line, and Vincent finished with 11 points for the game. Jordan Fisher and Jordan Henderson each scored five points while P.D. Elliot and Callie McAlister chipped in four apiece.

Lady Mustangs Fall to North Little Rock in Season Opener

Thursday, November 15, 2007

Playing their season-opener in a hostile environment, the Lady Mustangs fell to state-power North Little Rock 65-54 in a nonconference matchup that pitted the three-time state champion Lady Mustangs against a program that won the 2006 5A state title.

Kelsey Hatcher led all scorers with 23 points while junior Mary Ann Vincent scored ten points and Jordan Henderson chipped in eight. The Lady Wildcats led 30-21 at the half on the strength of their inside game before blistering the nets from the outside in the second half to preserve the win.

The Lady Mustangs travel to Camden Fairview Monday before hosting Carlisle Tuesday in their first home game of the year.

Hatcher Commits to Oklahoma State During Early Signing Period

Friday, November 16, 2007

Kelsey Hatcher has signed her name to the dotted line and will be competing at the division I level next year in their respective sports.

Hatcher, a 5'11" guard, signed with Oklahoma State University after winning two girls' basketball state titles as a sophomore and junior. She was named All-Conference and All-State as a junior while earning All-State Tournament honors the past two seasons. Hatcher was named to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette's All-Sophomore team, All-Arkansas team as a junior, and has been nominated for the McDonald's All-American team this year.

Hatcher, a regular on the AAU circuit with the Arkansas Belles and coach Scott Loucks, was invited to play in several all-star events last summer including the Junior Phenom All-American Camp at North Carolina State University, the Peach State Fab Five Camp in Sewanee, Georgia, the Adidas Top Ten Camp in Atlanta, and the EA Sports Adidas National Elite Camp in Las Vegas.

Hatcher Takes MVP as CAC Wins McDonald's Shootout

Saturday, December 8, 2007

Kelsey Hatcher scored 27 points as the Lady Mustangs (5-2) defeated Poplar Bluff, Missouri, 57-47 to capture the McDonald's Shootout championship in Paragould for the fourth consecutive year. Hatcher was named MVP as she led CAC in scoring all three games.

In the championship game, the Lady Mustangs came out hot as they took a 20-13 first-quarter lead behind four three-pointers from Hatcher. Poplar Bluff then slowed the game down in the second quarter and trailed only 27-21 at the half.

The Lady Mustangs saw their lead dwindle to 32-29 in the third quarter before going on a decisive 11-2 run to lead 43-36 at the end of the third period, and they secured the win by hitting seven of ten free throws in the last two minutes of the game. Mary Ann Vincent chipped in 11 points in the victory.

The Lady Mustangs now turn their attention to what is perhaps the state's top preseason matchup as they travel to Conway for Thursday's game with class 5A state-finalist Morrilton. The varsity boys will tipoff the action at 6:00 p.m. followed by a game many consider to include the state's top two girls' basketball players in Morrilton's Shekinna Stricklen, who has signed with Tennessee, and CAC's Kelsey Hatcher, who has signed with Oklahoma State. The game will be played at Hendrix University's brand new arena, and proceeds from both games will benefit the Life CHAMPS youth sports program.

Lady Mustangs Fall to Morrilton

Thursday, December 13, 2007

In a matchup between arguably the state's two best players, the Lady Mustangs couldn't quite contain Tennessee-signee Shekinna Stricklen as she had 30 points in Morrilton's 60-53 victory over the Lady Mustangs. CAC's Kelsey Hatcher finished with 17 points and P.D. Elliot had 13.

The Lady Mustangs led 15-14 at the end of the first quarter and trailed 30-24 at the half. CAC stormed back in the third quarter to cut the lead to one point, but Stricklen scored on a layup, then stole the inbounds pass and scored again to widen the gap and Morrilton stayed in control the rest of the game.

The Lady Mustangs now turn their attention to arch-rival Pulaski Academy. The varsity girls will tipoff the action at 6:00 p.m. Saturday followed by the varsity boys.

Kelsey Hatcher led the Lady Mustangs with 18 points as CAC ended the first half with an 8-2 run that cut the deficit to 20-18. But Shiloh Christian used stingy defense and ball control to limit the Lady Mustangs' scoring opportunities in the second half.

Kelsey Hatcher scored 17 of her 19 points in the first half as the Lady Mustangs built a 27-10 halftime lead. But the Lady Leopards were determined not to allow Hatcher to duplicate her second half scoring, and after trailing by 23 points in the third period trailed 38-19 entering the fourth quarter.

De Queen then began pressing and pressured CAC into a few turnovers and quick shots, outscoring the Lady Mustangs 21-9 in the final period. But P.D. Elliot was fouled on a made basket and hit the free throw and Jordan Henderson went 4-for-4 from the charity stripe to preserve the victory.
