In their final tournament of the summer, Jenny Welch and Eric Hearnes competed well in the Arkansas State Golf Association Junior Stroke Play Championships at Pine Bluff Country Club.
Welch, who finished fourth in the overall state tournament last season, led the tournament by a stroke entering the final round but could not hold off Taylor Fisher on a day that saw the highest scores of the tournament as she took second place with a three-round total of 229.
Hearnes, CAC's top golfer for a squad that took third in state last season, took fourth place in the tournament after firing a 73 in the final round.

The Mustang boys' golf team lost two lettermen but welcome some talented youngsters as they shoot for their sixth state championship in program history.
CAC returns top golfer Eric Hearnes and senior Daniel Bingham who helped the Mustangs to a state championship and third-place finish the last two years. Newcomers include sophomores Alex Hewitt and Carter Herrington and freshmen Cole Wallace and Blaine Teston.
For the girls, senior Jenny Welch has won back-to-back individual state titles and hopes to lead her team to the state tournament this season. Joining Welch will be senior Lauren Kegley and junior Lisa Alley along with sophomores Morgan Kirk and Lauren Wall.

The boys' golf team used an outstanding round from all four members to upset defending state champion Arkansas Baptist Thursday for the district championship.
Sophomore Alex Hewitt led the way for the Mustangs with an outstanding 72, and returning lettermen Daniel Bingham and Erik Hearnes both shot 73 while freshman Cole Wallace came in with a round of 76. The Mustangs' team score of 288 was two strokes better than Arkansas Baptist, which defeated the Mustangs last season for the district crown.
CAC now advances to regional competition September 17-19 at Glenwood Country Club.

Senior Jenny Welch shot a 74 at the Lions Club Golf Course in El Dorado to win the individual title at the region tournament for the fourth year in a row. Her six-stroke victory also enables her to defend the state title she has won as both a sophomore and junior.
The girls' state tournament will be held at the Lions' Den Golf Club in Dardanelle on Tuesday, September 25.

The boys' golf team persevered through a difficult round to take second place in the regional tournament held at Glenwood.
Freshman Cole Wallace led the Mustangs with a 74 while sophomore Alex Hewitt shot 79. Returning lettermen Daniel Bingham and Erik Hearnes came in with an 81 and 82, respectively. The Mustangs' team score of 234 was ten strokes behind Arkansas Baptist, whom CAC defeated for the district tournament crown a week ago.
CAC now advances to state tournament competition Wednesday, October 3, at Rolling Hills Country Club in Pocahontas.

Senior Jenny Welch shot a 72 at the Lions' Den Golf Club in Dardanelle to win the individual state title for the third year in a row.
Her unprecedented 14-stroke victory moves her into a league of her own, and Welch now advances to the overall state tournament October 11 where she finished fourth last year.

Junior Erik Hearnes shot a 72, earning medalist honors at the 4A state tournament at Rolling Hills Country Club in Pocahontas. The boys' team finished runner-up with a collective score of 230, five strokes behind champion Arkansas Baptist, before losing a playoff with Highland for the second consecutive year. Senior Daniel Bingham and sophomore Alex Hewitt both shot 79 while freshman Cole Wallace shot 83.
"We had a great year," said head coach Steve Quattlebaum. "We beat (Arkansas) Baptist in district and the guys did real well."
Hearnes now advances to the overall state tournament to be held Thursday, October 11, at Pleasant Valley Country Club in Little Rock.

Senior Jenny Welch shot a six-over-par 78 to take third-place honors at the Overall State Golf Tournament Thursday at Pleasant Valley Country Club in Little Rock. Welch, who two weeks ago won the 4A individual state title for the third year in a row, finished four strokes behind Mary Michael Maggio of Conway and Haley Sanders of Rogers, who both shot 74. Maggio ended up taking first place by shooting an eagle on the first playoff hole.
Junior Erik Hearnes shot a 116 that placed him seventh, shooting an 80 on the first 18 holes and a one-over-par 36 on the last nine holes. Hearnes, who two weeks ago won the 4A individual state title, finished ten strokes off Marion's Josh Alford. Alford's round of 106 bested second-place finisher Alex Carpenter by one stroke.
