Senior Lauren Dreher signed a softball scholarship Thursday to further her athletic and academic careers at Southwest Tennessee Community College in Memphis, Tennessee.
Dreher, an outfielder and catcher for the Lady Mustangs, has started three years and hit over .500 each season. She was the starting left fielder on CAC's 2006 state championship team and started at catcher last season for a team that lost in extra innings in the 4A state quarterfinals.

With no seniors on last year's squad, the Lady Mustangs return everyone from a young squad that gained momentum throughout last season to go on a late-season run before ending with an extra-innings one-run loss in the state quarterfinals.
Staci Sullivan and Edie Hamby return on the mound and will swap off at first base with newcomer Steffany Starks joining senior Lauren Dreher behind the plate and in center field. Freshman Megan McCullough looks to start at third base while All-State shortstop Jordan Fisher returns for her junior season. Courtney Burleson and Morgan Kirk look to take second-base duties. In the outfield, sophomore Jenny Fisher returns and will switch to left field from center field while junior Jessica Hammond looks to take over in right field. Freshmen Fulton Partlow and Victoria Harvey and sophomore Macy Martindale could all see playing time in the outfield and sophomore Destiny Spruill could be a factor as a designated hitter.
The Lady Mustangs look to return to the state tournament for the third year in a row after winning the state title in 2006 and making it to the quarterfinals last season. This will be CAC's final year in the 7-4A as they move to the 5A-West next season.

The Lady Mustang softball team fought back from an early deficit to tie the game in the bottom of the fourth inning before dropping a 4-3 decision in extra innings to the Nashville Scrapperettes in a 7-4A conference game Monday at Burns Park.
CAC gave up a run in the top of the first as Nashville scored on a slow grounder that enabled a runner to score from third after a triple. Then in the top of the fourth inning, the Scrapperettes doubled and put another runner on first with a walk before two passed balls scored one run and a Lady Mustang error allowed the other to give Nashville a 3-0 lead.
But CAC battled back in the bottom half of the fourth as Steffany Starks singled, Jordan Fisher's grounder moved her to third and Lauren Dreher's chopper back to the pitcher drove Starks home to put the Lady Mustangs on the board. Edie Hamby and Staci Sullivan then hit back-to-back singles and Morgan Kirk's double to right field scored both to tie the game.
The Lady Mustangs staged a rally in the bottom of the seventh with two outs as Starks drew a walk and Jordan Fisher singled, but the Scrapperettes got the last out on a line drive to force extra innings. With a runner starting on second base under tiebreaker rules, Nashville used a sacrifice bunt to move the runner to third before a single gave the Scrapperettes the winning score. In the bottom of the inning, the Lady Mustangs moved Lauren Dreher to third with a groundout to shortstop, but Staci Sullivan's sacrifice bunt was fielded and thrown to first for out number two and Dreher was caught between third and home for the final out.
The Lady Mustangs are now 1-1 in conference play and host Fountain Lake Thursday with first pitch scheduled for 5:00 p.m. at Burns Park.

Overcoming a slow start and an early deficit, the Lady Mustang softball team scored three runs in the top of the fourth inning to take a lead they would never relinquish on the way to a 6-4 conference victory Tuesday at De Queen.
Courtney Burleson led the offense with three RBI on 3-for-3 hitting and Staci Sullivan got the win on the mound while striking out nine batters and scattering six hits.
De Queen struck first as the Lady Mustangs committed two errors in the first inning and were down 2-0 after two innings of play. But Burleson singled to start the top of the third, moved to second on the throw from left-center field and scored two batters later on a Lady Leopard error.
Down 2-1 entering the fourth inning, Lauren Dreher led off with a single, Edie Hamby got on with an error and Dreher scored on a single by Morgan Kirk. Macy Martindale, pinch-running for Hamby, and Kirk scored two batters later as Burleson doubled to the right-center field fence.
In the top of the fifth, the Lady Mustangs' Jenny Fisher got on with an error and scored on Dreher's double to the left-center wall, but De Queen would use three hits to score two runs in the bottom of the inning to narrow the CAC lead to 5-4.
But the Lady Mustangs would add an insurance run in the top of the sixth inning as Kirk reached first on an error, stole second base, moved to third on Fulton Partlow's sacrifice bunt and scored on another clutch Burleson single.
