Playing their final two conference games of the season, the Lady Mustangs lost a heartbreaker in extra innings to first-place Ashdown before drubbing host Fountain Lake to finish 7-4A play with a 4-3 record.
CAC gave up a run in the top of the first inning before Steffany Starks' triple gave the Lady Mustangs their first baserunner in the fourth inning. Lauren Dreher's single drove her home, and neither team scored the rest of the way to force extra innings. The Pantherettes then hit five singles in the top of the eighth to score three runs and CAC could not answer in the bottom of the eighth as Ashdown took the 4-1 decision.
Against Fountain Lake, the Lady Mustangs batted through the lineup as Starks and Jordan Fisher both homered. CAC led 15-1 after two innings, held the Lady Cobras scoreless in the top of the third and scored the final run in the bottom of the third to invoke the mercy rule and end the game with a 16-1 victory.
Seeding for this weekend's conference tournament will take place Wednesday as the Lady Mustangs look to contend for a berth in the South Region Tournament. Two of CAC's three conference losses were in extra innings and the other loss was by a single run. The top four teams in the conference tournament will advance to next week's South Region Tournament in Ashdown.
The Lady Mustangs play two nonconference games this week as they host Little Rock Christian Academy Monday before traveling to Sheridan Thursday.
