Tic-Tac-Toe, Three-in-a-Row?

Tuesday, January 15, 2008

The Lady Mustangs lost four seniors last season but return all three All-State performers as they look for their third state title in a row this season.

The Lady Mustangs return the bulk of their team from last season including All-State players Kara Kellerman, Kelsey Hatcher and Taylor Sherrill and All-Conference performers Mary Ann Vincent, Jessica Waller, Katie Harrison, Katy McGee and Cara Rolf. Experience will certainly be an asset as CAC will feature eight seniors and five juniors in addition to a talented sophomore class and several top freshmen.

Battling back from a 2-0 second-half deficit, the Lady Mustangs got goals from Sarah Harris, Kara Kellerman and Anne Fitzegerald to take a 3-2 victory Tuesday at Bryant, their first opponent of the season from class 7A.

"The entire team gave a very competitive and team effort to battle back and bring home the W," said CAC head coach David Shackelford. "The girls played an outstanding game.  One of the most exciting, bar the two (state) finals maybe, that I’ve seen them play."

The Lady Mustangs next travel to North Pulaski on March 6 to take on the Lady Falcons. Game time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

The Lady Mustangs dropped a tough 1-0 decision to Pulaski Academy Tuesday at Mustang Mountain in nonconference action. "We played a really tough game and deserved a better result than what we got," said head coach David Shackelford. "We controlled possession, maintaining it for probably close to 70 percent of the game.  They had three or four chances to our 10-11 chances . . . but never got a goal."

CAC defeated Nettleton Monday by a 7-0 count as the Lady Mustangs got goals from Kelsey Hatcher, Kara Kellerman, Cara Rolf, Bethany Harden and Anna-Grace Chandler.

The Lady Mustangs beat Stuttgart, 9-0, Friday in 4A-Central conference action to remain undefeated in conference play.  Sheridan Johnson had her first career goal and Kelsey Hatcher had a hat trick.
