After taking only two wrestlers from the team to compete in the State Tournament last season, the Mustangs are optimistic they will build on last year's experience as they lost only one senior.
Nick Rynders and Garrett Stebbins both placed in last year's state meet, and several promising newcomers could vault the Mustangs to a successful year in the state's second year of wrestling competition.

CAC took third place behind Bentonville and Fayetteville in a meet that featured several of the state's top wrestling teams. Though many schools had multiple wrestlers in most weight classes, the Mustangs fared well as seven wrestlers placed in the top four of their respective class.
First-year wrestler Brett Hogan took second place in the 125-pound division. "He is very quiet off the mat but once he gets on the mat he is very aggressive and competed really well for us," said CAC head coach Keith Almond. Hogan's record is 2-2.
Drake Brainerd took fourth place in the 103-pound division and is in his first year of competition. "He is a good addition to the wrestling team and (we) look for good things from this ninth-grader in the years to come," said Almond. Brainerd has a 3-3 record this year.
Freshman Tyler Binford (2-4) took fourth place in the 135-pound class. "(Binford) really commits himself to getting better on all of his moves and I see that committment paying off by the time state rolls around in March," said Almond.

With a record of 6-2, Jared Thomas took third place in the 171-pound weight class. "Jared is a great senior Christian leader who wants the wrestling at CAC to be a success and is always willing to help the younger wrestlers improve their skills," said Almond.
Finishing second in last year's state tournament in the 189-pound classification, Nick Rynders took third place in the Russellville tournament after losing a tough semifinal match to a more experienced wrestler from Fayetteville. "Nick has a very competitive fire to succeed and the other wrestlers and coaches know who he is and like to watch him wrestle," said Almond. Rynders is now 5-2 on the season.
Competing in the 215-pound division, Jonathan Roberts is continuing to adjust to competing in a lighter weight class than a year ago. "(Roberts) was our heavyweight last year but worked hard to cut to the 215 and looks to be a good competitor in this weight class," said Almond.
